"Superbly smooth whisky with a gentle smokiness.

Nose contains citrus and honey behind the smoke, with a oaky-honey-like palate and a smoky vanilla finish. Few drops of water makes this one of the smoothest whiskys i've had."

'The Week of Peat' arrives in a new presentation as part of a trio of malts or 'stories' referencing the human tales of key distillery figures. Labelled as 'Story No.2' and reportedly peated to 30ppm, this bottling celebrates re-commencement of peated runs in Balvenie's own maltings. The former distillery manager, Ian Millar trialled drying barley with peat for the first time after a week’s gap in the distillery’s production schedule back in 2002 (hence the name). Older releases are in the pipeline. This edition was non chill filtered and bottled at 48.3% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... This expression dates from 2002, when Balvenie first produced a batch of heavily peated malt. Matured in American oak casks, the nose exhibits subtle peat balanced by honey, vanilla, and ripe red apples. On the palate, the soft smoke is well integrated with vanilla, more honey, ginger, and overripe pears. Ashy peat, citrus fruits, cinnamon, and tangy oak in the finish. An elegant peated whisky. 88 points
