In 2001 a heavily peated batch was distilled at Balvenie and left in cask until full maturity. The casks that had originally held the peated liquid had become infused with the smokey profile. Master Distiller, David Stewart, decided to experiment by filling them with 17 year old Balvenie for a short period. The result is a stunning fusion of restrained, sweet peat that otherwise remains true to Balvenie's distinctive house style. This will take you by surprise.

Tasting note: Deep gold- amber. A soft, seductive bouquet issues hints of dilute honey and poached pear. Quite floral with the smoke muted but with more definitive peat presence in the mouth. A compelling delivery. The texture is nothing short of sublime and the profile captivates - lightlly cured salmon, hints of wasabi and fruit'n'honey malt finishing floral, sweetly smokey and femininely styled in the sexiest way imaginable. Wow. Understated yet stunning. Think of it as the Grand Cru Burgundy of the Highlands. Only Balvenie (and perhaps a handful of other distilleries) could bottle this kind of elegance. 43% Alc./Vol.
