Beaujolais is home to the Gamay grape, and can be made in styles ranging from light and fruity Beaujolais Nouveau, through to more weighty, intense and structured Beaujolais Cru wines. In the middle of that sits Beaujolais Villages, where the wines are light to medium weight and full of juicy fruit. Georges Duboeuf are the most recognisable producer in the region, making wines at all levels and using all of the Cru sites.
Deep bright purple black colour with a youthful purple hue. Fragrant aromas of macerated cherries, some incense infusions, earth and spice. Light and fruity the palates vibrant freshly crushed cherry flavours have a youthful inkiness to them with subtle incense infusions, earth and spice following on. Bright acidity and slightly chalky tannins with an aftertaste of freshly crushed cherries, incense infusions and spicy cedar.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
Bright black cherries and some yogurt on the nose follow through to a medium to full body, soft tannins and a juicy finish. Some tile undertone. Quite tannic. Needs a year or two to soften, but some might like the firm mouthfeel now. Try in 2018.
