Atze's Corner is owned by sixth generation Barossa Valley vigneron, Andrew Kalleske. At the heart of the project are low-yielding 1912 and 1951 Barossa Valley Shiraz vines planted adjacent to the locally-known Atze's Corner, in an unassuming plot of land to the east of Nuriootpa on the valley floor. Fruit is also sourced from several other vineyards, also owned by the Kalleske family. Two of the Barossa Valley's prized sub regions make up 100% of the Shiraz in this wine - Ebenezer and Koonunga. Open, small-batch fermentation, handplunging and pumping and minimal filtering and fining define Andrew's unobtrusive approach with maturation taking place in a combination of new French oak (10%), seasoned French oak (50%) and seasoned American oak (30%) for a period of 18 months.

‘A richly flavoured, open and opulently textured Shiraz’

Totally opaque inky black dark crimson red colour with very deep black crimson hue. Lifted ripe blackberry and liquorice aromas are to the fore followed by a whiff of black cherries, vanillin oak and confectionary. Rich opulent flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice and black plum flood the palate over a background of lightly toasted vanillin oak and spice. Plush textural qualities combine with velvet smooth tannins. Long aftertaste of ripe blackberries, liquorice, toasty vanillin oak and spice.
Drink over the next 4-5 years (2014-2019).
