2011 Olivier Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Pucelles

Burgundy, FRANCE
$180. 00
Bottle
$2160.00 Dozen

Often seen as the premier village for White Burgundy, not least due to the fact it contains four Grand Cru vineyards along with some of the very best Premier Cru sites. Wines from Puligny often have very precise, floral notes and are generally finer than those of Chassagne and Meursault.

Other Reviews....
Elegance and delicacy are the hall marks of this seamless white. The lemon cake, apple and mineral flavors are deftly accented by toast and spice. The elements all come together on the mouthwatering finish.

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles 2011 from Olivier Leflaive is a conservative and linear nose the is pleasingly focused, with slate and tertiary scents unfurling nicely in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, but it does not quite possess the tension or the depth of the previous wines in the fight. There is an atractive feminity here and should drink well over the next 5-8 years.

A distinctly spicy nose also offers up notes of honeysuckle, citrus and white-fleshed orchard fruit aromas. There is a really lovely and refined texture to the silky medium weight flavors that are really quite delicious but lack just a bit of the verve displayed by the Folatières and not quite the same fine depth either. Still, this is very good and very Pucelles in character.
