2011 Acorn's "Musicienne" Caol Ila 7 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Youthful but already clearly Caol Ila. The oily smokiness is enhanced by a touch of cured meats. Others found "...peanut brittle and smoky toffee."

Tasting note: Always interesting to try young whiskies. Here's another indie Caol Ila – this time a toddler and it seems peatier than usual; Heavy, dense and oiled up on the nose with Calabrese pizza, smoked meats, lanolin, peppercorns, herbal teas and more, while the flavour-wave of oily peat saturates the mouth: Winter sausages, smokey citrus and pepper follow in a creamy finish. The aftertaste is kippery, menthol fresh, then ashy, lanolin-like and drying. Easily carries the massive ABV. Who says great whisky needs to be old? 57.9% Alc./Vol.
