Named as a tribute to John “The Gaffer” Riggs (1814-1902), the great-great-great grandfather of winemaker Ben Riggs, this McLaren Vale Shiraz was made to acknowledge 150 years of the Riggs family’s rich farming heritage in South Australia.
The Gaffer Shiraz is sealed with a pink stelvin capsule as with every bottle sold the Mr Riggs team make a charitable contribution to Breast Cancer Research.

Possessing an explosive fruit bomb flavour profile, Ben Riggs rates the 2009 vintage as close to the best of his 22 vintages in McLaren Vale.

Totally opaque black crimson colour with very deep black crimson hue. The nose displays lifted aromas of freshly crushed blackberries, plum, liquorice and confectionary showing excellent varietal character and good intensity. The palate delivers the explosive ‘fruit bomb’ flavour profile that has made the entire Mr Riggs stable of wines so eagerly sought after. Opulent, rich and joosy it delivers a mouthfilling flavour experience of ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum, confectionary and spice. Super fine grained tannins with long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice and confectionary.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2010-2014).
