- Closure: Cork
Note:from a .45 ha parcel in Les Treux where Clos de Vougeot meets Grands Echézeaux
Producer note: The always forthright and direct Yves Confuron (who is also the régisseur at Domaine de Courcel in Pommard), describes 2009 as a "vintage that was necessary to harvest late if you were going to obtain true phenolic ripeness with all of the elements. Because we employ 100% whole clusters in our vinifications, we necessarily need high ripeness levels. We picked from the 20th to the 30th of September and brought in extremely clean fruit that ranged in potential alcohols from 12.7 to 14%. The fruit had a full 30 days of cuvaison and the malos were extremely long, indeed some only just finished. Overall, 2009 produced excellent wines though it remains to be seen whether they are genuinely great. Time is really the only proof of that."
Moderate reduction blocks the fruit though discreet floral aromas can be seen even through the funk. Otherwise, the big, powerful and forceful middle weight plus flavors possess buckets of dry extract that coat the palate on the explosively long and almost painfully intense finish. This is a striking effort that will require plenty of cellar time before it peaks.
Allen Meadows - Burghound Issue #41
Good bright red. Musky, perfumed, high-pitched aromas of coffee, rose petal and burnt orange. Dense but light on its feet, with a piquant blood orange character giving clarity to this seamless, silky midweight. Finishes with wonderfully fine-grained tannins and lingering scents of flowers and spices. This beauty conveys the energy of a top 2010.
