The staff at Tronquoy Lalande welcomed the arrival of the Bouygues brothers as new owners of the estate in 2006. Once known as the "MacGyvers of Saint-Estephe", the staff had had to make do with whatever equipment was available in the cellar and be creative in finding new possible uses for it! They now enjoy all the luxuries that millions Euros of investment can buy. The French industrial magnates behind this Chateau also invested in human assets. Jean-Bernard Delmas (ex Haut-Brion) shelved his retirement plans to tackle the revival of Tronquoy Lalande, as well as propelling Chateau Montrose to new levels (the other Bouygues acquisition).

A superb Bordeaux which really showcases the opulence of the vintage.

In short, Tronquoy Lalande is a leading model for any 21st century Bordelaise estate. The people of Tronquoy Lalande are not the only ones to be thankful. This 18 Ha Estate of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, sits on a very singular gravelly profile found nowhere else in the Saint Estephe appellation - a terroir within a terroir, so to speak, just waiting to reveal its potential. Tronquoy Lalande have delivered the goods in 2009. Robert Parker, who had long merely glanced at its wines, now warms to their "round, generous, sumptuous" style. We were very pleased to get our hands on a new allocation while this wine remains such a tremendous value proposition. That may soon change!

Outstanding totally opaque black purple colour with black purple hue. Perfumed aromas of violets and blackcurrant are followed by some subtle toasty cedar, earth and spice. Full bodied the palate delivers very rich ripe blackcurrant flavours which overlay some toasty cedar, a hint of liquorice, some subtle earth and spice. Very fine grained, slightly dryish but perfectly balanced tannin structure. Excellent depth with long ripe blackcurrant, toasty cedar and earthy spice aftertaste.
Cellar 5-8 years (2018-2021).
Alc 14.0%

"...a blend of 51% Merlot, 42% Cabernet and 7% Petit Verdot, this the finest wine Tronquoy-Lalande have yet produced. It reveals an opulent bouquet of mulberries, blueberries, raspberries and spring flowers, full body, silky tannin, low acidity and a lush, pure mouthfeel. This uncharacteristically round, generous, sumptuous wine should be drinkable early on."
