Tasting note: Single cask Laphroaigs are a rarity to be savoured. This one's a gem. Heady aromatics of smoked meats, spent pipe tobacco as well as undertones of white pepper, hemp, baked citrus, elastoplast and menthol rub. On the palate, it's an essay in controlled power. A salty, sultry attack with the peat arriving in oily waves. Incense, eucalyptus, iodine and elastoplast make a definitive stamp on the finish. The aftertaste turns peppery, kippery, with maritime freshness persisting. Great distillery character. For all its brooding depth this retains an effortless, ethereal lightness. 56% Alc./Vol.
