From a very versatile distillery fitted with three types of stills (two traditional pot stills, four 'Lomond' stills and one column still) - which means the owners can 'mix it up' to produce various whisky styles - and they do. It's partly why Loch Lomond is marketed under several different labels including Inchmurrin, Croftengea, Inchmoan, Inchfad and Rosdhu... Hence, it's difficult to pin down a general house style. What's clear is the spirit is capable of long ageing with a 50 year old selling for 25K a few years ago! This double-decader from two Bourbon barrels looks interesting. Seasoned UK whisky writer, Dave Broom describes "big, earthy, cereal qualities and a hint of chocolate". Review below. 378 released. Very limited stocks.Other reviews... NOSE: You’re greeted by a big cereal note, wholemeal flour and a health food store, plus a slightly fatty quality akin to Glen Garioch that then moves into dry grass, sharpened pencils and light liquorice. While the cereal element continues when it’s diluted, you also get hemp and a mealy pudding element. PALATE: Big and chewy, with a Vaseline-like textural quality as the cereal now takes on a roasted malt character, alongside chocolate and ginger snaps. It ramps up in terms of weight and power. With water, you get more hazelnuts, crackers, some of the oiliness and then light spices. FINISH: A light earthy note. CONCLUSION: Playing on multiple variations of a theme – and doing it well. 84 points - Dave Broom, scotchwhisky.com Notes from Cadenheads... Nose: Kaffir lime leaves, sandal wood, pinecones. Flavour: Tea leaves, herbs and lemon zest. Finish: Freshly cut grass, oak. 52.5% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
