There's not a lot of Mortlach around nowadays, and certainly not at prices like this.
Current owners, Diageo release round 800 cases of a 16 Year Old annually under their Flora & Fauna label, which retails for about $160.00 and comes bottled at 43% ABV. The next closest thing to "official bottlings" of Mortlach have been the licensed releases by Gordon & Macphail. Otherwise, output is reserved for Diageo's blends, such as Johnnie Walker.

While Diageo has recently unveiled an 18 million investment plan to double the capacity at Mortlach "and promote it as a standalone single malt", bolstering the brand by introducing four new single malt expressions, it's hard to envision them rivalling anything like the recent expressions from Duncan Taylor. The age / price ratios are exceptional, as is the sheer purity of the spirit. Each represents a terrific opportunity to secure top-notch Speyside malts of great provenance at fantastic prices. Needless to stay, stocks are extremely limited.

This cask strength edition falls under Duncan Taylor's "Dimensions" label, a super-premium collection of whiskies ranging from 10 year old single malts and grains up to 39 years of age. Many are the product of a single cask and bottled at natural strength.

Tasting note: Pale gold. Juicy malt and vanilla combine with flashes of varnish in the opening phase. Second pass finds apple / pear, vanilla oak and cigar box. Only the mildest tingle to the delivery - the balance is impeccable. Dense fruit and vanilla laced malt follows through to a creamy-yet-fresh, delicately spiced conclusion and a long dry, apply fade. The mouthfeel is simply astonishing. Outstanding. 519 bottles produced. 54.1% Alc./Vol.
