The 1990 vintage was characterised by a late bud burst with delayed flowering. The Summer was warm and dry with a late March harvest, yielding 3½ tonnes per acre. The wine spent 2 years in new Nevers oak. Medium body, brick red colour, showing signs of bottle development. The nose is very appealing with the aromas being almost perfumed – notes of confectionery, cedar, leather and violets. The palate shows good concentration of flavour with earthy truffle, confectionery, stewed fruits, ripe plum and leather flavours. Fine grained dry tannins, in excellent balance, followed by a very long confectionery plum and spice aftertaste. At its peak – drink up.
