Glenrothes Vintage malts are the product of a set of casks that have been handpicked by the Malt Master from a particular year’s distillation and judged to be at the peak of possible perfection. Vintage selections account for a little more than 2% of the distillery’s production capacity making these rare spirits indeed. To date, only a small number of vintages have been released due to the exceptional quality required. Each vintage has its own unique personality and flavour profile, with each bottle bearing the date of distillation and also the year of bottling.

According to Ronnie Cox, Brands Heritage Director for The Glenrothes, “With the passing of time, vintages from the 1970s and 1980s are inevitably becoming more and more endangered. The 1988 Vintage is a fantastic reminder of how beautifully The Glenrothes ripens from vibrant, zesty youth to rich, full-bodied maturity.”
Maturation Occurs in both Spanish and American Oak barrels, seasoned in sherry and bourbon respectively. Notation on the bottle depicts the character of this vintage as: "Rich candied orange peel, fruit compote.

Other reviews... The nose offers a nose of thick cut marmalade, rich oak, spicy oranges and fruit cake, while the palate is rich and full-bodied, with more oranges, vanilla and The Glenrothes’ hallmark balance and creamy texture. The finish is long and comparatively sweet, with a hint of smoke. - Gavin D Smith, Tom Cannavan www.whisky-pages.com
