$1500.00 Dozen
ABV: 43%

Limited quantities of the very best casks of The Glenrothes malt whisky are individually selected from a given year's distillation when judged to be at the peak of their perfection. They are then bottled as The Glenrothes Vintage Malt. The type of cask used for maturing The Glenrothes can influence the flavour of the final whisky to a much greater extent than age alone. Only casks that are considered to be of exceptional quality are used, and these can be made from either American or Spanish oak. The American casks will have been used previously to mature sherry or bourbon, whereas the Spanish casks will have been used to mature sherry.

To ensure that The Glenrothes is only selected for bottling when it has reached the peak of its maturity, each individual cask is carefully checked, nosed and tasted during the many years of maturation. Those casks that are selected must meet with the high quality expected of The Glenrothes, and must also have other outstanding characteristics so special they warrant bottling as a "vintage". Not all the casks from one year will meet these strict criteria and a vintage is not guaranteed each year. Each bottle of The Glenrothes Vintage Malt carries the date of distillation and also the year of bottling.

Tasting Note: Bottled in 1999. Amber gold color. Rich aromas of complex fruit and vanilla. Thick and rich in body, with a mouth-coating texture. Flavors of honeyed malt, well structured fruit, and vanilla, with a long finish. The 1979 vintage expressed more sherry influence than the 1982, and so does the current 1987 vintage. The extra touch of sherry influence contributes a richness and fruity complexity that makes this whisky a pure joy to drink. 43% Alc./Vol. Rating: 90/100 -tasting Note sourced from The Malt Advocate Magazine.size> For more information visit Glenrothes.size>

Further notes…Nose: Sweets hops. Icing sugar. Liquorice. Very delicate hint of rooty peatiness. Palate: Silky-smooth. Nougat. Dried apricots. Anis. Finish: A suggestion of orange. Teasing delicate, gently soothing. Comment: The flavour metaphors evoke childhood, but this is a very adult, sophisticated malt.RATED: 8.25 /10
