An independent bottling matured in a refill hogshead, distilled back in October 1985 before Longmorn's wash stills were converted to steam firing. When this whisky was made the stills were directly coal-fired, a method of heating that took a lot of monitoring, experience and judgement from the stillman. Although less efficient and less consistent than steam, many anecdotes suggest there's a noticeable difference in flavour between methods, with coal fire much preferred. In our tasting experience, direct fired spirits do seem to offer greater character. This is a small run even by indie standards with just 157 bottles produced. Non-chill filtered and natural strength, it will be as pure a Longmorn as you're ever likely to experience. Bottled in 2016. Comes beautifully presented in a gloss lacquered presentation box. 49.2% Alc / Vol.

Hunter Laing's Old & Rare name signifies rare single cask malts bottled at their flavour peak. Whether it was the water, the wood, or even the location in the warehouse, circumstances have conspired to create a sublime drinking experience which can never be repeated.
