The Longmorn distillery was built in 1894-95, and the name probably means "Place of the Holy Man" - indeed an old chapel once stood on the site of the distillery. The building was extended twice during the 1970s and is currently owned by Chivas Brothers. Maturation largely takes place in x-Bourbon casks, and the malt remains prized by blenders as well as playing a key role in Chivas's acclaimed 18 Year Old blend.

This extra aged expression from independent bottlers, Gordon & Macphail was distilled in 1964.

Other reviews... (n23) half an hours worth of testing out cracked yet highly polished old chesterfields...; (t3.5) the integrity of the sherry has lasted almost 50 years and here offers the most attractive dark cherry you will find; sweetened by molasses and burnt fudge; (f23.5) when first pouredm finale is pretty oaky aggressive.  Leave a while to oxidise and that oak begins to put a protective arm around the surprisingly juicy fruit; the dark sugars and marzipan also join forces and become a little special...; (b23.5) it's waited some 47 years to come out and have a chat with you.  So leave it in the glass a good 20 minutes before listening to what it has to say.  43% 93.5 points
