A blend of Grenache, Shiraz, Merlot, Primitivo, Tempranillo & Mataro. Deep dark red colour with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Ripe dark raspberry scents are followed by liquorice, dark cherries, earth and spicy dried herbs. Medium bodied the palate has a fleshy feel with generous dark cherry and dark raspberry flavours sitting over a touch of liquorice, earth, subtle dried herbs and pepper. Slightly dryish finish with polished tannins and a medium length aftertaste.

Deep dark red colour with a tinge of black to the outskirts and a bright purple red hue. The nose is very fragrant with aromas of dark raspberries, plums and liquorice tinged with hints of violets followed by earthy dried herb and spice notes. Succulent and silky, the medium bodied palate is filled with rich, plushly textured flavours of dark raspberries, liquorice, dark plums, earthy incense infusions and subtle spicy dried herb elements. Velvet smooth tannins. Good depth with a long finish of spicy dark raspberries, liquorice, dark plums, earthy incense characters and traces of dried herbs.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

Slinky texture and although medium weight, there's enough volume here to satisfy just about everyone. Red and black berries run the show before anise and chocolate flavours step forward and fancy it up. The finish then bursts with spice. Well played on all fronts. Drink by 2025.

Invariably one of the best (drinking) Barossa GSM, at least for my tastes.
Cherry, raspberry, spice, floral too, liquorice, but a little sooty/earthy too, which grounds it beautifully. Medium bodied, juicy purple flavoured wine, with a just the right amount of tannin grip, succulence and savoury. Finish is fresh and long. Delightful. Drink 2017-2024.

Named as a tribute to the legendary Barossa Vigneron’s who pioneered the planting of the old treasured vineyards, the Grenache fruit is the ‘soul’ of this blend and is predominately sourced from an exceptionally low yielding 60+ year-old Light Pass Vineyard. It was originally planted by the Kennedy Family, with ownership eventually being passed onto the charismatic Leo ‘Joe’ KENNEDY who nurtured the vines for many years, selling his prized fruit to local winemakers.
Rich, juicy, focused and expansive, this is clearly one of the best GSM’s going around.
A blend of 48% Grenache, 32% Shiraz and 30% Mourvedre matured in seasoned oak hogsheads and puncheons for 16 months. Opaque black dark red core with a bright dark red hue. An alluring aromatic profile of spicy black raspberries, liquorice and ripe dark to black cherries fills the nostrils with subtle incense, light scorched earth, fresh herbs and pepper chiming in for added complexity. Rich, sleek and powerful, delicious dark to black fruit flavours of raspberry, plum, cherry and liquorice make a grand entrance gliding effortlessly across a medium to full bodied palate that shows great concentration. Very expansive finish with elements of incense, fresh herbs, a faint meatiness and spicy pepper chiming in. Perfectly judged acidity provides just the right amount of freshness and silky smooth tannins only enhance the wines plush feel. Magnificent length with a long harmonious aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

As my colleague Walsh has noted, you can count on Kennedy. I tasted through a range of Sons of Eden current/new releases recently and this wine stood out. I tasted them without knowing the asking prices and so I was surprised/delighted to find that this was also about the most affordable of them. Some days you have a win. What I like about this is that it’s both robust and svelte. It tastes of blackberry, kirsch, anise and dark leather and at every point along the flow of the palate it feels convincing. Drink 2019-2028.

‘Rich, juicy and super sumptuous’
Deep dark red core with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. Ripe dark raspberry, dark cherry and liquorice aromas jump out of the glass followed by some earthy incense and spice notes. Succulent dark raspberry and dark cherry fruits swamp the mouth with elements of liquorice, plum, subtle inky earth and spice ensuing. Very fleshy in its feel with velvety tannins, good freshness and a long moreish aftertaste to finish things off. Drink over the next 4-5 years Alc. 14.5% -

Avatar is typically a blend of approximately 50% old vine Grenache, 30% Mataro and 20% Shiraz matured in seasoned oak for 12 months. Opaque dark red black colour with a dark red hue. Intense dark raspberry, ripe cherry and liquorice aromas meld into vanillin cedar, earth, subtle dried herb and spice notes. Generously weighted the palate is flooded with rich dark raspberry, dark cherry and liquorice fruit which holds sway over a back drop of dark chocolate, vanillin cedar, subtle earth and spicy dried herbs. Plush and deeply concentrated with silky smooth tannins leading into a long sumptuous aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

Grenache mataro shiraz. The bouquet is fragrant, pointing directly at the medium-bodied marriage of red and black cherry, raspberry and plum. It has balance and length, the finish and lingering aftertaste highlights. Drink by 2026.
