The Corte Giara range is an offspring of the famous Allegrini family in the Valpolicella region. Together with a few select winegrowers, they created a concept centred around modern and eclectic wines, representing great value for money, with international varietals through to Amarone, Recioto and other classic wines of the Veneto region.
Bright pale straw colour with a faint tinge of green around the outskirts and a watery hue. Delightful pear and red apple aromatics blossom out of the glass trailed by honeysuckle, hints of musk and stony notes. Slippery and well rounded in its feel, delicious pear and red apple fruits glide across the palate underscored by notions of honeysuckle. Showing excellent intensity and depth it has a stony underbelly, finishing dry and fresh with a long beautifully textured aftertaste.

The Kurtz family are fifth generation Barossans of German descent with the original vineyard planted in the 1930s. Today these vines, together with later plantings and acquisitions in the fifties and sixties, allow fourth generation grape grower and vigneron, Steve Kurtz, to draw on significant old-vine fruit to create a range of wines that are true to the traditional Barossa style.
Seven Sleepers, or Siebenschlaffer, is named after an old Barossa German farmers’ lore, being that the weather that occurs on 27 June is likely to be prevalent for the next 7 weeks.

A rich, fruit driven blend that delivers terrific value.

A blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Shiraz and 17% Petit Verdot sourced from the Kurtz Family Vineyard located in the Barossa Valley sub district of Light Pass and a small vineyard at Sawpit Gully Road in Eden Valley. Midnight black in colour with a deep dark red hue. Nosing offers up ripe blackcurrant and liquorice scents which are followed by vanillin cedar, tobacco and spicy dried herb notes. Showing ample weight and flesh across the palate are rich blackcurrant, liquorice and choc mint flavours which sit over a back drop of vanillin oak and spicy dried herbs. Polished yet sturdy tannins with a long plush finish.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

    Other Reviews….
Cabernet Sauvignon 52%, Shiraz 31%, Petit Verdot 17%. I really enjoy these Seven Sleepers wines from Kurtz. Honest. Good value. Fruit driven.
Blackcurrant, sage, a little floral perfume, a sort of iron / coal dust sort of thing happening (hard to describe, and don’t mind me). It’s juicy and fruit driven, blackcurrant and blackberry pastille, dried herb and dark chocolate, fine grained tannin offers appropriate grip, succulent and packed with sweet small berried fruit to close. Delightful. Drink 2021-2027.
