Sipsmith was established in London in 2009. The first copper-pot based distillery to start up in London in 189 years, it is one of only four gin distilleries located within the city limits. Situated on a residential street in West London on the site of a former microbrewery, it's also the site which later became the office of famous beer hunter and whisky writer, Michael Jackson.

Sipsmith's first two spirits are a Barley Vodka and a London Dry Gin (a Sloe Gin is expected soon). These are produced in small batches of fewer than 300 bottles from an English Barley mash that is created off-site. The company employs a German swan-necked copper-pot still. Referred to as 'Prudence' by the proprietors, she's caricatured on the brand's labels as a stylized pot-still with a swan’s neck and head.

Their vodka is blended with the exceptionally pure water of Lydwell spring, one of the sources of the River Thames. According to the distiller, Jared Brown, the unique purification properties of the copper still and a cut taken from just the very top of the heart of the run, mean the vodka is so pure that it requires no filtration or adulteration. The result is a deliciously buttery taste with an extraordinarily soft mouth feel.

Tasting note: [BATCH BV / 084 tasted] Crystal clear. Offers clean, soft, sweet floral scents with citrus oil undertones becoming more vanilla custard like over time. A light silky entry leads into a semi sweet palate with a juicy, creamy mouthfeel that continues the subtle floral / baked citrus profile. Pleasantly warming. More cereals towards the finish. Concludes dry, vibrantly peppery and with surprising length. A delicious vodka with very appealing textural qualities, but not for lovers of neutrality. 40% Alc./Vol.
