Signatory Vintage The Un-Chillfiltered Collection Ballechin Black Label French Exclusive 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
When Edradour was bought in 2002, Andrew Symington called on the services of Iain Henderson, the former director of Laphroaig for the creation of a second, very peaty malt. Given the name of Ballechin, it employs barley at 50ppm phenols, a rate comparable to the smokiest malts from Islay. Launched in 2003, it's sold as a yearly vintage in limited runs of 6000 bottles and has proven itself suited to maturation in a wide range of cask types. Exclusive to the French market, only a few dozen bottles of this ten year old oddity have made their way to our shelves. Released in 2020 and drawn from a first-fill sherry butt, it's a slightly different beast to Edradour's official 'green label' expression which is predominantly Bourbon matured. Followers of the brand will also note a sophisticated new-look label. Anticipate smoky and fragrant peat, some minerality, smoked herbs and an intense, earthy peat on the palate mingling with nutty oloroso, cooked lemons and pepper. 46% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered.
