Penny Blue VSOP Single Estate Mauritian Rum (700ml)

Named after the world's rarest stamp, (printed in Mauritius in 1847), the Penny Blue rums are distilled from the molasses of estate-grown sugar canes and matured and bottled at the Medine Estate on Mauritius. Aiming for a new standard in affordable, quality rum, Berry Bros. & Rudd’s Spirit's Specialist, Doug McIvor, together with Jean-Francoise Koenig, Master Distiller at Medine combined their expertise to select rums at their peak maturity. Aged for a minimum of four years in a combination of cognac, whisky and bourbon casks, the VSOP continues the high quality set by the Penny Blue XO, but for a fraction of the price.

Tasting note: Perfect polished brass colour. Can’t fault the nose in its text-book aromas of crème brulee, caramelised fruits, vanilla bean and dried mango. This slips around the tongue while never being overly sweet, then grabs you with a length and style unexpected at the price. Elegant, medium bodied flavours strike a perfect sweet-dry balance. There's light molasses, golden syrup and grilled pineapple notes as well as hints of dried mango through the finish. It's a new benchmark in value for money rum, and better still, non chill filtered. 40% Alc./Vol.
