Hazelburn Rundlets & Kilderkins 10 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Hazelburn is Springbank's triple distilled expression, now also released as a limited edition of 12000 bottles under their R&K series. Essentially, it's matured in small casks (traditionally known as rundlets or kilderkins, 15 and 18 gallons (Imperial) respectively), which generally leave an impression of accelerated maturity.

Tasting note: Bright gold. Beams from the glass. Moderate aromas of porridge and straw bail, followed by cocoa and subtle whiffs of lanolin. Fuller and richer than the nose suggests with a delicious, juicy barley delivery framed by lively peppers and featherweight peat. Love the finish which highlights the pure, succulent fruity-malt; reigned in slightly by drying oak and brine, but undeniably complex. 50.1% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... This bottling of triple-distilled Hazelburn comprises spirit produced in 2003 and matured in unusually small casks known as rundlets and kilderkins. Malt, chocolate, and honey figure on the nose, along with a contrasting marine note in the background. Unctuous and rich on the palate, with soft fruit, almonds, brittle toffee, and lots of spice. The finish is lengthy and earthy, with caramel and vanilla notes ultimately being superseded by oak and sea salt. 88 points
