Filliers Distillery is situated in a small rural village called Bachte-Maria-Leerne, in Flanders, Belgium. Filliers has been distilling Gin since 1880. Apart from Genever, it now also produces Goldlys Whisky making it the first distillery to begin maturing whisky in Belgium (see 'Goldlys' on this site).
The base for this spirit is a malt wine made of 50% rye and 50% malt, 75% of which is aged for 12 or 15 years in American oak barrels and 25% in Limousin oak barrels. Expect a mild flavour, hovering between sweet and herby-bitter, with hints of lemon and orange.
