2025 Sons of Eden Freya Riesling
Zesty lime, lemon and Granny Smith apple fruits with a crisp, snappy feel.
Two vineyards made contributions to the 2025 Freya Riesling. The Cranes Range vineyard and the Roesler vineyard both situated in the cooler Craneford section of Eden Valley have vine ages between 45 to 60 years old.
Brilliant water like core with a faint greenish tinge around the outskirts. Leaping out of the glass are lime juice, lemon and orange rind aromas followed by some green apple, talc and chalky mineral notes. Zesty lime, lemon and Granny Smith apple fruits carry a crisp, snappy feel across the palate with wet steel, orange rind, chalky talc and flinty mineral elements lying underneath. Displaying excellent intensity, it has a tense feel, tingly acidity and a long steely finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 11.5%
Other Reviews.....
The Sons of Eden crew does riesling well. It's a dry, limey singularity, impressively focused with a stony, composed air as it sails true on the palate. All the things you'd expect from an Eden Valley riesling are here: those Christmas lily and citrus blossom top notes, a splosh of Bickford's lime cordial, that umami that presents like the slow ache of a flake of sea salt melting on the tongue, the freshly squeezed lime juice and the surprising rate it disappears from the glass. It's great, refreshing drinking – of that there is no doubt. Drink by 2040.
