2021 Thorn-Clarke Shotfire Shiraz

The 1870s marked a pivotal decade for the Clarke family in the Barossa. One side established a fruit farm that would nurture some of the region’s oldest vineyards and six generations of viticulturists, while the other discovered the region’s first gold mine. A century later, these two legacies united, forming the family, winery, and a shared purpose: to craft wines truly worthy of gold.

The 2021 vintage produced exceptional wines in very low quantities due to a dry winter and mild ripening weather. Small berries and sparse bunches resulted in intensely flavored and deeply colored fruit with excellent balance. Grapes were destemmed and fermented with twice-daily pump-overs for maximum color, tannin, and flavor extraction. After seven days, the wine was pressed and matured for 14 months in American oak (40% new, the rest second and third fill). It features aromas of blackcurrant, mulberries, smoky oak, and cloves, with a palate of dark fruits, chocolate, taut tannins, and lingering oak, all wrapped in a striking deep red-purple hue.
