2017 Powell & Son Barossa & Eden Valleys Shiraz

The philosophy behind this wine is to marry the strengths of The Barossa and Eden Valleys together. A 50/50 blend of Eden Valley Shiraz from 40+ year old vines and Barossa Valley Shiraz from 60+ year old vines, the fruit is fermented separately in concrete vats before spending 15 months in 4,500 litre French oak foudres.

Superb depth of colour displaying an impenetrable midnight black core with a very deep dark purple black tinged hue. The nose throws off intoxicating scents of black cherries, liquorice, dark plum and hints of ripe blueberry which meld into fennel, smoky vanillin cedar and pepper notes. Dense and opulent in texture, the mouth is saturated in a pool of rich liquorice, dark plum and blackberry fruit with underlying nuances of blueberry, smoky vanillin cedar, fennel and spicy pepper then following on. Fantastic fruit purity and length, finishing with an elegant freshness. Velvet like tannins yet well structured with a long powerful aftertaste.
