2016 Woodlands Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

The Watson Family continue to churn out outstanding Bordeaux blends, their last rendition of the entry level Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot, from what they describe as a stellar vintage, delivers fantastic value. A blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, 11% Malbec, 1.5% Petit Verdot and 0.5% Cabernet Franc matured in French oak for 14 months.

A beautifully harmonious Margaret River blend that marries rich red fruits to a refined feel.

Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. An amalgam of red to black currant and mulberry fruit shows good aromatic lift over cedary tobacco characters and spicy bay leaf. The elegant, medium bodied palate is flush with ripe red currant and mulberry fruit which sits comfortably over a back drop of vanillin cedar shavings, tobacco and spicy dried herbs. Perfectly integrated tannins and well balanced acidity provide the framework. Excellent drive with a long spicy red currant, mulberry, vanillin cedar, lightly earthed tobacco and dried herb aftertaste. Already very savoury and approachable this will reward extended cellaring for at least another 6-8 years.
