2016 Mazzei Fonterutoli Chianti Classico

Aged for 12 months in small French oak barrels of which 40% were new this is a blend of 90% Sangiovese with the balance made up of Malvasia Nera, Colorino and Merlot. Deep dark red core with black tinged edges and a dark red hue. The nose dispels aromas of dark cherries and red currant overlaid by hints of rose petals with earthy cedar, dried herbs and spice ensuing. The palate presents well delivering a savoury medium bodied flavour profile of ripe red currants and dark cherries over earthy cedar and dried herbs. Spicy finish with good fresh acidity and slightly dryish fine grained tannins providing the structure. Good length with an elegant richness to the ripe red fruits and a medium to long aftertaste.
