Hugo wines are a family owned and operated winery with fifth generation member John Hugo in charge of winemaking. Fruit for the 2016 Hugo Shiraz was sourced from two estate blocks planted in 1972 and 1988 respectively. Maturation took place in an equal mix of French and American oak hogsheads, 20% of which were new, for a period of 16 months.

Gliding across the palate like liquid silk, this rich, sumptuous McLaren Vale Shiraz delivers the goods.

Impenetrable black core with a deep dark red black hue. Jumping out of the glass are decadent aromatics of ripe blackberry, liquorice and dark plums followed by vanillin cedar, fennel, spicy dark chocolate and pepper notes. Sumptuous and rich, blackberry, dark plum and liquorice flavours fill the mouth. Dark chocolate, vanillin oak and spicy pepper elements then chime in on the finish. Excellent power with a velvety textural feel and silky smooth tannins. Concludes with a long plush aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
