2006 Douglas Laing & Co. Old Particular Single Cask Mortlach 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Indie bottlers, Douglas Laing bring us this unusual single cask Mortlach, bottled non chill filtered from a refill hogshead. The result was 321 bottles. The bottlers say to expect aromas of warm popcorn, green apple peel, followed by strawberry tarts, green fruits, a touch of spice, pastry and oats.

Tasting note: [20ml sample] The opening scents are vaguely briny, waxy and grassy evoking reposado tequila. Mildly sweet and malty on entry. Doesn't give away much except at the finish where dill, white pepper and hints of mustard pickle again make this oddly tequila-like. Candidate for most idiosyncratic whisky of the year? 48.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
