2001 Stonehaven Stepping Stone Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2000 Stepping Stone Cabernet was fantastic. The current release 2001 is very good, but does not quite have the same degree of palate concentration. None the less, it is a very drinkable red and represents excellent value. Very deep crimson mauve colour. The nose is appealing with aroma of spice and blackcurrant followed by hints of violets and liquorice. The palate has good weight with flavours of dark chocolate and blackcurrant evident, followed by a hint of mint. Fine dry balanced tannins, followed by a very long chocolate, blackcurrant and mint aftertaste.
