This is a much tighter St Hugo than the 1998. Very deep crimson colour – virtually opaque. Lifted aroma of spice and violets, followed by a blackcurrant end note. The palate structure is tightly knit, and does not present the voluptuous characteristics of the 1998. Flavours of cedar, plum, blackcurrant and stewed fruit evolve. Fine grained, tight, firm tannins, followed by an aftertaste of plum, spice and blackcurrant.
