1998 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame Champagne

La Grande Dame de la Champagne is named after the Widow Clicquot. Widowed at 28, Clicquot who became determined to continue and develop her husband's business, won fame with the invention of "remuage", a technique which revolutionised the clarification of champagne. Once used by Madame Clicquot alone, the technique was subsequently adopted by all Champagne Houses.

Tasting note: Blend: 64% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay. A superbly ripe Champagne that has all the open generosity of the 1998 vintage. Peach and apricot aromas are followed by flavors of hazelnuts, honey and spices. Of course, it is still very young, and, like all vintages of La Grande Dame, it will age for many years. 12.5% Alc./Vol. 92 points
