Tyrrells regard the George and Neil Steven vineyard in the Hunter as one of the finest in the district. Deep crimson colour with mauve hue. Medium body. The nose is closed, which is surprising given the wine’s age. Subtle notes of confectionary, earth and spice emerge. On the palate, the character of old leather and spice emerge over a blackpepper back palate with some old leather emerging. Fine firmish dry tannins, followed by an aftertaste of dark cherries, old leather, spice and blackpepper.
