Tasting note: Distilled in 1986 and bottled 2016. Deep brassy gold with gold ochre edges and thick legs. It takes three to four minutes to break through the opening notes of nail varnish / shellac revealing walnut fudge, dates, cedary oak and black pepper. Momentarily bittersweet, tannic and mildly acidic, this fills out at the mid palate stage with a surge of dates, fruit cake and vanilla framed by fine, drying tannins and lively spices. Finishes with cigar box, pepper and a touch of rancio; the fruit manages to stay above the oak till the end. A leaner style that really shines at the finish. Great stuff. 48% Alc./Vol.
