Lark Distillery Pepperberry Gin (500ml)

Tasmania, AUSTRALIA
$49. 99

$599.88 Dozen
ABV: 40%

Gin or London Gins are traditionally made from distilling a neutral spirit over a selected number of botanicals which of course includes Juniper berries. To make their gin stand out as something unique and special to Tasmania, Lark's have introduced the pepperberry (also used in their Bush Liqueur) to the usual range of botanicals, resulting in a gin with a delightful zing.
Initiallly, we had been rather hard with this gin and suspect the review was downgraded by a cork taint.

Retasted 10th October 2008.
The second sample displays classic Tasmanian mountain pepper berry characteristics. The mountain pepper (Tasmania Lancelata) produces small dark berries and a fine leaf where the pepper characteristics can be infused from. The nose displays subtle spice and unique black pepper character over some subdued citrus and juniper notes. The light to medium bodied palate is medium dry, and delivers a perfect expression of the mountain pepper berry. Long, gently peppery, mouthfilling, elegant and refined.
Clean dry fine spirit. Excellent balance. A classic Gin with an Aussie twist.
Alc/Vol: 40.0%

Awarded a Bronze Medal at London International Wine & Spirits Competition 2008.

First Tasted 13th August, 2003.

Bright water like colour. The nose is rather odd with notes of sea weed and old fish emerging – a little unpleasant. On the palate the sea weed and old fish characteristics re-appear, followed by a spice and pepper aftertaste with the ‘fishiness’ persisting.
Alc/Vol: 37.0%
