Krug Grande Cuvee Champagne

Champagne, FRANCE

Bottle
$3599.88 Dozen
ABV: 12%
Closure: Cork

This is Krug‘s signature champagne - a blend of forty to fifty base wines from as many as six to ten different vintages. Henri Krug maintains that this wine is the most difficult to make, since each year it should smell and taste the same as any of the previous releases. The concept is that someone ordering a bottle of Krug Grand Cuvee anywhere in the World, in any particular year should have precisely the same exceptional experience.

Good white creamy mousse with pale gold base wine colour. Exceptionally fine bead showing excellent persistence. The nose displays excellent intensity with pronounced toasty top notes followed by some baked bread, light citrus, yeast lees and some nutty roast almond like end note characters. The palate follows on from the nose delivering a full, rich and concentrated flavour profile of toasty yeast lees, baked bread and citrus with some nutty hazelnut characters emerging on the back palate. Clean crisp dry finish. Long persistent aftertaste of toasty baked bread, lees and hazelnut.
Drink over the next 4-5 years (2011-2016).

Deep straw colour with pale gold overtones. Very fine persistent bead. The nose has that classic Krug juxtaposition of power and elegance. Very pronounced nose, with complex aromas of yeast autoylsis, arrowroot biscuit and hazelnut. The palate displays sublime elegance, with great length and persistence. The biscuit yeast flavours are over-laid by nuances of roast almond and just the faintest hint of grapefruit. Perfect balance, with exceptionally long aftertaste. Drink it whenever you can afford it.

Other Reviews....
By the standards of Krug, this is notably elegant, its freshness the keynote of an Olympian wine. All about white flowers, citrus, and brioche in a basket on a nearby table. The 2006 acidity of the base wine shows clearly, and the wine grows each time you taste it,  its grip a firm handshake; looks you in the eye. ID 414082
