Diplomatico Reserva Rum (700ml)

VENEZUELA
$79. 99
Bottle
$959.88 Dozen
ABV: 40%
When this rum debuted in 1989 it took Venezuela by storm. 840,000 bottles were sold there alone in the first 24 months. It is a 50 / 50 amalgam of heavy pot still vs lighter column still rums, aged for up to eight years. A step up in richness and sweetness from the Anejo, this also ups the ante aromatically.

Tasting notes: Deep copper colour with deep straw hue. Deep and luxurious nose at first delivering coffee, chocolate and orange cake, then with time in the glass maple syrup and spice notes begin to dominate. The palate shows restrained sweetness amid a plethora of dark chocolate and milk-coffee like flavours, the maple ebbs and flows. Throughout, a fruity/floral undertone keeps the palate fresh. A feather-weight spicy surge at the finish follows through to a long, drying, light chocolate & orange-cake aftertaste with hints of hay emerging. So clean and relaxed. Delicious on its own or dedicated to upmarket cocktails.40.0% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Copper color. Aromas of waxy honeycomb, mocha gelato, and chocolate graham crackers with a satiny, fruity-yet-dry medium body and a smooth, creamy latte, toffee, mineral, and banana gelatin candy finish. Very smooth and tasty.
