Whisky With a Twist

The name orangery (Orangerie) reflects the original use of a building as a place where citrus trees were often wintered under cover, surviving through harsh frosts. Though not expected to flower and fruit, they were a symbol of prestige and wealth. It was on a visit to the landmark orangery in the Kew Gardens, London that whisky maker John Glaser gathered inspiration for this unique whisky infusion.

Although not classified as Scotch whisky due to the inclusion of orange peel and exotic spices, this intriguing creation is made with a blend of Highland single malt and single grain whisky. Enjoy slightly chilled or an addition to a cocktail classic. Whisky orange anyone? Non-chill filtered and contains no artificial colouring.

Tasting note: Pale gold with pale straw hue. A perfumed nose reveals fresh banana cake, orange peel, citrus oils and honey all beautifully harmonised into a soft spirit. The palate entry is immediately dry, with orange peel and ripe lemon then an unexpectedly juicy, spicy surge. Beautifully balanced. Finishes clean and dry with a subtle aftertaste of liquorice all sorts and candied orange. Utterly delicious. One for sweet and sour Asian food?

Other Reviews… The aroma displays a spicy, rind-like bearing with hints of orange candy, fresh herbs, and the oily presence of grain whisky. The palate entry is nicely acidic and bone dry; at mid-palate the taste profile turns mildly sweeter, sap-like, and more whisky-like. The finish is off-dry, citrusy, sappy, yet creamy. Best Buy.
