History
The Chateau was built in 1480, in the Gothic/Renaissance style, and is listed as a historic monument. During the 17th Century the Bishops of Bordeaux were allowed to manage the Estate and played a defining role in changing its direction. Prior to their management, 'eaux de vie' was the only product produced, however, the Bishops longed for the wines of Sauternes and gradually introduced the Bordeaux varietals of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc. - This is quite different to the standard examples which are based on Ugni Blanc grapes. The climate is also similar to that of the Medoc, being sunny, mild, humid and temperate. The soils are chalky and well drained.

Chateau De Beaulon regards its Pineau des Charentes very highly, introducing the drink "where the Pineau des Charentes is Lord". Traditionally it is a strong sweet drink, made by artisan winemakers, whereby one year old cognac is added to grape must that's just about to ferment. The net effect is a disjointed blend of grape juice and brandy that needs at least a year in cask in order to integrate.
Chateau De Beaulon take a different approach to this wine style, with the clear objective of producing a perfect aperitif. The base must is composed of 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, which can be compared to that of Sauterne. To the must is added one third of the Chateau's oldest Cognac followed by barrel maturation. The Chateau produces a range of styles which have been aged for different lengths of time in cask. These include, 5 year old, 10 year old Pineau, as well as a number of aged Red Pineau des Charantes, which have been produced from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The Chateau has received numerous gold medals and trophies throughout the world.

Tasting note:A delightful aperitif wine. Brilliant gold colour with deep straw hue. There is a hint of rancio on the nose, followed by notes of honey, caramel, spice and hazelnut. The palate does not disappoint. Velvet texture and mouthfeel are enhanced by the flavours of toffee, spice and caramel. The gentle 'fire' of smooth spicy cognac then kicks in to add great length and depth. Very long aftertaste of cognac, honey, toffee and caramel. Served Chilled.
