2022 Domaine Charles Audoin

Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.

Cyril Audoin has become a reference point in Marsannay in recent years, and the release of his outstanding 2022 red and white wines has only added to his reputation. At Domaine Charles Audoin the vineyards are mechanically harvested, with moderate yields still very much the focus. In the winery, the extraction process is gentle, and the wines undergo élevage for two winters, starting in barrels (primarily from François Frères) before spending some time in tanks. The resulting style is characterized by pure and seamless wines, featuring bright fruit notes and supple tannins in the reds, and a combination of texture and freshness in the whites. On his 2022s Cyril commented that " if it were possible, I would happily sign up to make this style of wine every year!". While the incredible quality and value have remained consistent from vintage to vintage and even more importantly across all range, it should also be noted that the 2022 releases welcome back the white single vineyard crus after being unavailable in 2021.
