2022 Domaine Charles Audoin Marsannay Les Favieres Pre-Arrival Offer

Domaine Charles Audoin was formed in 1972 by Charles and his oenologist wife Marie-Francoise, starting with three hectares in Marsannay. Their holding has now grown to around 14 hectares that captures some of the best parcels in Marsannay. Their son Cyril joined his father in 2000, and is now in charge of both vineyard and winemaking activities for the Domaine. Cyril is increasingly focused on vineyard health, to deliver wines with pure varietal expression and a sense of place. They are among the most serious wines from the area, and while juicy and approachable young, have the capacity to age gracefully for many years.

Les Favieres is situated on the border of the Marsannay and Couchey sectors, and the vineyard has a very shallow top soil above the bedrock. It tends to produce wines that are very precise, structured, and built to age.

The 2022 Marsannay Les Favières unwinds in the glass with notes of wild berries mingled with orange zest, licorice, rose petals and spices. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep and racy, with a dense core of fruit framed by powdery tannins, concluding with a mineral finish.

This is also exuberantly fresh with its notes of pomegranate, red cherry and pretty hint of rose petal and anise. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied and energetic flavors quite refined thanks to the very fine-grained but dense tannins supporting the presently compact, moderately austere and balanced bitter pit fruit-inflected finish. This is always a wine that needs extended aging and the 2022 version should be no exception. Drink through 2032+.
