BELGIUM

$899.88 Dozen
ABV: 43%
Belgium is famous for its abbeys and monasteries with just over 40 still surviving. From medieval times, these islands of civilisation maintained herb gardens to provide medicine and food for the monks and for the local community. In a quest to create 'The Holy Grail' of gins, Belgin have dusted off ancient elixirs and discovered long forgotten herbs and spices recorded by Master Monks. As such, the gin is named after the old Flemish word for "herb" and is the world’s first Abbey inspired dry gin.

The full breadth of 50 botanicals is a secret, but the following are known:
Various forest berries provide an inviting nose as does lavender flower. Traditional citrus such as lime is used, as are coriander and cardamom with verbena leaves and marjoram, while juniper berries are combined with abbey herbs such as rosemary, sage, thyme and angelica root. Traditionally distilled in a copper pot still and bottled at 43% Alc./Vol.

Tasting note: Nosing finds a complex amalgam of rose water, potpourri, raspberry flan, ripe juniper, green cardamom and delicate heat. Light and ethereal in the mouth, with floral accents evoking dried herbs, curry leaf, lavender & rose-scented talcum powder, rounded out by late beeswax, juniper and red berry freshness. Lingers. Reminiscent of an enfleurage style. Very distinctive. 43% Alc./Vol.
