Angostura Legacy Rum (500ml)

$25000. 00
Bottle
$300000.00 Dozen

We recently received a tiny vial, a generous proportion of one of 20 bottles of rum in the world, and probably one of the most expensive spirits in existence. Angostura’s master distiller, John Georges, says Legacy is liquor’s equivalent to a super car – a flash exterior, an appealing colour and sensory appeal. “The package is a head-turner to start with” he says. “At Angostura we have 80,000 barrels of spirits. Over time we keep stuff we think is special and really having these bits and pieces there waiting – that’s the business we’re in. Marking occasions. In this instance it’s the 50 year anniversary of Trinidad and Tobago’s independence. It’s always a challenge because we all have different tastes. It takes time, practice, and experience.

We’ve got all the fancy equipment but it really comes down to being able to deliberate on the sensory factors.”

The limited edition decanters have been made by Asprey of London, the jeweller to the Prince of Wales.

Tasting note: [Tasted from a 10ml sample] Deep brassy gold. A sensuous perfume of fresh dates, vanilla, coffee and dark chocolate entrances the senses. A few minutes in the glass shifts the spectrum towards raw sugar, creme caramel and roasted nuts followed by nuances of new leather and more besides. Even from this modest sample, the ethereal texture, stunning purity, impeccable balance and definition are clear in the mouth. No doubt there is more to the flavour profile than the cascades of dried banana, sweet spices, golden syrup, old leather and barley sugar suggest. 10ml is enough to leave an aftertaste that lingers for well over a minute. A larger sample might see our rating waver up or down one point. Whichever, this is a captivating, feminine expression of the genre that's utterly seductive. 40% Alc./Vol?
