Greywacke is the Marlborough label of former Cloudy Bay winemaker Kevin Judd, where he presided over that company’s first 25 vintages establishing the reputation that it has today. The name Greywacke was adopted by Kevin and his wife Kimberley for their first Marlborough vineyard in Rapaura, named in recognition of the high prevalence of rounded greywacke river stones in the soils of the vineyard. Kevin registered the name back in 1992 with the vague notion that he might one day want to use it on a wine label of his own.
Brilliant water like colour with a greenish tinged outskirts. Pungent herbaceous gooseberry, lime and light passionfruit aromas flow through the nostrils followed by grassy asparagus like characters and subtle stony mineral notes. An intense mix of passionfruit, herbaceous gooseberry and guava flavours fills the mouth underpinned by racy acidity. Notions of grassy asparagus and flinty mineral characters make an appearance on the back half. Dry crisp finish with a long mouth watering aftertaste.
Drink over the next 1-2 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews….
A very fresh, lime and grapefruit nose with a gently herbal thread, as well as green passion-fruit notes. The palate has a captivating fusion of fresh acidity and rich, fleshy fruit flavors. Zesty and intense. Very drinkable. Screw cap.
