Owner and manager of Pierro Estate, Dr Mike Peterkin, has a viticultural pedigree second to none. Besides making one of Margaret Rivers best Chardonnay’s, Mike also produced the first Semillon Sauvignon Blanc blend in Australia.
Fermented and matured in French oak (50% new, 50% one year old) with malolactic secondary fermentation and hand-stirred on the lees for 12 months. Brilliant pale straw colour with a distinctive greenish tinge around the outskirts and a watery hue. Intense white peach, nectarine and dried honey aromas are distinguished by a smoky gun flint overlay. Hints of almond, citrusy nougat and ginger spice are also evident. This is a Chardonnay of superb refinement and wonderful persistence, rich and fleshy yet perfectly poised with a round, gently creamed mouthfeel and counter balancing freshness. Very concentrated and long the palate is flooded with white peach, ripe nectarine and dried honey flavours which are underpinned by subtle notions of roasted almonds, biscuit, spicy nougat and infusions of gun flint. Concludes with magnificent power and finesse.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 13.5%

Other Reviews….
For those who got it right, it seems 2019 was a very good vintage in Margaret River for Chardonnay. Pierro got it right.
Beautiful concentration and intensity. It’s slippery and glossy, but has delicious fine acid cutting through. I’m thinking lime and pear, nougat, and cougar-like poise and power. Sage and butter, pink grapefruit and spice. Finish is long and tight and offers gentle grip as it goes. Welcome to the pleasure zone. You have country and western here. Great Chardonnay.
