Located deep in the heart of Western Australia’s most isolated wine region, Frankland Estate have been one of the countries leading Riesling producers for well over 20 years. The Isolation Ridge vineyard was planted in 1988 and produces probably their most revered Riesling capable of long term cellaring, a case in point being the 2009 museum release also featured in this newsletter which at over 10 years of age still remains remarkably fresh. The cool nights and long slow ripening periods typical of the Frankland River region allow maximum flavour development while maintaining the distinctive vibrant acidity for which Rieslings from this region are renowned. Primarily fermented in stainless steel tanks, where it is left on its lees for six months, a small parcel of was fermented and aged in (neutral) oak for 10 months to provide more complex textural components and enhance the opulence of the wine.

Wonderfully pristine and pure, this is a scintillating Riesling, bursting with intense, mouth-watering lemon and lime fruit.

Certified organic. Brilliant water like colour with greenish tinged edges. Intense lemon and lime juice aromas engulf the nostrils with granny smith apple, wet steel and flinty mineral scents also present. Searing lemon, lime and granny smith apple flavours are delivered with outstanding concentration, focus and drive. Underpinning the fruit are steely characters and a flinty minerality. Racy feel with crunchy acidity leading into an exceptionally long and powerful finish.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
Alc. 13.8%

Other Reviews….
This exudes such pristine life from the glass with elegant, floral notes and fresh lime juice, sliced yellow grapefruit, green apples and powdery bath salts. The palate has a sleekly defined and attractively pithy core of lime-juice flavors with an exceptionally long finish that holds such juicy, pristine citrus-fruit flavors. So long. From organically grown grapes. Drink over the next decade or more. Screw cap.

The Isolation Vineyard was planted in 1988, the same year I went to Sydney University for about one day, so I can tell you, it seems quite a while back for me too. It’s a powerful style of Riesling, no doubt. Green apple, wet stones, lavender, lime and fresh yoghourt. Intense, bold, fine powdery pumice stone texture with perfume, guava and zest of lime, cool commanding acidity, but so settled and unobtrusive, almost a key lime pie richness carrying the very long finish. It’s discernibly different to most Australian Riesling, and plants its flag firmly in the powder. Wonderful. Drink 2020-2027+
