Run by Laurent Charvin this small family estate has vineyard holdings of 8 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape and 13 hectares in Cotes du Rhone. Certified organic the average age of the vines is over 50 years old. These Grenache based wines follow traditional winemaking techniques with no de-stemming and all aging takes place in cement takes. Charvin’s Côtes du Rhône is regularly rated as one of the very best from this area and perhaps it is not surprising as the vines for this cuvee border directly on to the appellation for Chateauneuf du Pape in the northern sector where they are located.

A knockout Chateauneuf du Pape look a like that boasts explosive power, richness and a muscular structure.

Produced from a blend of 81% Grenache, 7% Mourvèdre, 5% Carignan and 7% Syrah. Deep black dark red in colour with a dark red hue. Aromatics of black raspberry, liquorice and black cherry sail out of the glass followed by notions of herbs du Provence, subtle incense and peppered meat notes. Showing superb power and intensity, an explosion of rich black fruit saturates the palate with black cherry, black raspberry and liquorice leading the charge. Lending some firmness to what is an otherwise opulent feel are ripe chewy tannins. Dried meats, infusions of herbs du Provence and scorched earth lie beneath. Finishes with a burst of blackpepper and a long ripe yet muscular aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
