Still family owned and operated, this small Coonawarra vineyard has been evolving over the past 40+ years and now involves their daughter, Emma who has taken on the winemaking role whilst Doug is looking after the viticultural side of things. The Estate consists of 33 hectares of vines planted on the prized Coonawarra Terra Rosa soils. Established in 1972, the first vintage in 1975 was greeted with considerable enthusiasm.
Bowen Estate are capable of producing Shiraz that rival some of the best from more renowned Shiraz producing regions such as McLaren Vale and Barossa Valley. Typically they are big and powerful gleaming with rich seductive black fruit.

A benchmark in Coonawarra Shiraz.

Impenetrable inky black colour with a deep dark purple black hue. An amalgam of blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits sail out of the glass followed by trailing vanillin oak, subtle earthy graphite and blackpepper notes. Rich, plush blackberry and liquorice fruits glide across the full bodied palate with elements of black cherry, a dash of blueberry, spicy vanillin oak, subtle notions of scorched earth and blackpepper chiming in on the back half. Not quite as dense as some previous vintages but lacks nothing in terms of power. Balanced acidity with velvet like tannins possessing a sturdy underbelly. The aftertaste long and opulent yet also fresh and some what refined in its feel.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
